LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS
Calvary Nexus is a community of faith that dwells in the midst of a community. God has called us to love our neighbors, be merciful, and do the right thing by humbly sharing our resources to care for the needs of others to the extent that we are able [Matt. 22:37-39, Mic. 6:8].
Current Covid Crisis Assistance
We are generally seeking to help our Calvary Nexus family and community beyond, especially at times of crisis. If you are seeking help or would like to offer to help, please CLICK HERE and we will include you in our databases, and follow-up in an effort to love this community of faith and beyond.
As we seek to share resources and care well, we are asking those who are able to please give online at: giving.calvarynexus.org
Every first Sunday of the month we show God’s love to our neighbors by donating at least $5,000 to a financial need in our community. The first Sunday gifts are in addition to our existing missions, outreach and benevolence budgets. We commit these resources on the first Sunday to reflect the generosity of our God, and our confident trust that He will provide the resources to make it possible to share. Here is a list of recipients through the last year:
May 2021: We donated $7,500 to Pacific Camps Scholarship Fund for Calvary Nexus families, and the general community, in need of financial assistance for gospel-centered preschool, before and after school programs.

Adopt an Elementary School
Pleasant Valley School of Engineering and Arts [PVSEA], and Las Posas School are local elementary schools with a higher degree of economic hardship. In an effort to show God’s love to our neighbors we created an assistance request form where families can identify needs such as school supplies, school clothes, winter jackets, a utility bill, or other requests. The assistance request forms are received weekly from the school, and made available the next Sunday at the church. The needs are adopted by individuals, groups, or the church to provide the requested assistance within the week.
1. Easter Eggstravaganza: In cooperation with Parks and Recreation, we will sponsor and serve our community’s Easter event.
2. Back-to-School Service Project at Las Posas School: We will provide a hundred-plus backpacks filled with grade level appropriate school supplies for families in need of assistance. We will provide additional financial gifts for needed school supplies. We will mobilize a hundred-plus volunteers to assist teachers to prepare classrooms for back-to-school; and will serve the teachers and school staff a lunch to share our appreciation for their service to the children, families, and our community.
3. Christmas: During November and early December, we will identify needs from the Calvary Nexus, Pacific Camps, Las Posas and PVSEA schools communities. We plan to continue our tradition of providing Christmas gifts in excess of $25,000 to more than 200 families in our community.
4. Monthly Meal: With the goal of demonstrating the love of Jesus to our neighbors in a practical way, volunteers from Calvary Nexus have been serving a free, hot meal to approximately 80 to 100 people on the third Thursday of every month for over ten years now. There are various ways to participate, including food preparation, set-up, food service, hospitality, prayer and clean-up.
